Hello Winter ...again

It started kind of slow, just a pinging of sleet and a
small glassiness on the limbs; however,at 9:00 a.m. we lost power. The storm lasted all day and night, but we were comfortably prepared. Gathered in the living room, snuggled by the fire and passing the time with Texas Hold'em and some slightly burned, warmed in the fire pizza, we were enjoying this last (hopefully!)
hurrah of Winter. The fireplace also cooked our baked potatoes and we tried, though not terribly successfully, to make some Jiffy Pop type popcorn by fashioning a big pouf of tinfoil with a little oil and corn inside.  It was ok, but probably would have been a lot better if the pouf had been bigger - or maybe less popcorn! It needed a little more room.  We were returned to the Land of the Lit at 9:00 p.m. and our Hatchet/My Side of the Mountain experience (well, in our eyes) was over.

This morning we woke to a virtual wonderland of gorgeous snow coating the ground and tree limbs. So incredibly beautiful, especially when the sun came out and touched the trees, setting them to glistening in such a lovely way! So pretty.

It's now 3:00 p.m. and it's all mostly disappeared. A bit still clinging to decks or shady areas that see no ray of sun.  All in all, it was one enjoyable winter storm for us.  I am, however, really, really ready to move towards Spring!!! Bring it on!

Post Winter Weather

Now that we've had our lovely winter weather and I've had a chance to accomplish my desire to make some pretty icy crafts, it's time to start thinking of the garden in earnest.  Gray and misty is the way of it today and a trip around the garden shows Spring is beginning to push forward, no matter what the calender says. Spring bulbs are not stymied by a covering of snow and their pointy tops have pushed through to begin their journey to Garden Bliss.  February is when things really start rolling around here. Garden clean up and fertilization are the two main chores I tackle. We usually have some really nice, sunny and warm days in February. Until those days come, I'll be spending a lot of time looking at pictures from previous years and trying to figure out how the heck I can get my garden to look like those of my heroes (Candadian Garden Joy, Fortnam Gardens). I don't hold much hope because I've been doing the exact same thing for about 7 years and my garden has changed very little. It has it's moments, but I need there to be more of them!

On a different note, this little wren flew into one of our windows and knocked itself loopy. We found it laying in the snow and brought it into the house. After about 30 minutes it stood and we took it outside and it flew away.  One of our only success stories with injured wildlife.  I now have a little wren coming to my feeder. I know it's probably not the same one, but I like to think maybe it is!

Thanks so much for stopping by today, I hope you're having a lovely Sunday!
